Internet has become an important way of our image creation, including the professional one. By participating in social media, it is possible to shape our own image not only in eyes of private persons, but also of potential employers. The aim of the article is to identify activities which were undertaken by young participants in labour market (students) associated with creating their own professional image in social media. It was found that they usually concentrated on shaping private relationships, as well as the development of their knowledge of the subjects which were not connected with work or job and also on sharing that knowledge with other users of social media. In contrast, much less attention they paid on creating their own professional image and the development of their careers.

The professional development of sociologists involves specialized training through which we acquire and apply numerous skills. However, it is unlikely that our professional socialization includes training in how to inform the public about sociological knowledge and research through media involvement. As a sociologist who did not receive such training and was not prepared for the enormous unanticipated media and public interest given to my research topic, I provide a personal account of my unexpected metamorphosis into a media self and my experiences working with the media. I describe the nature of my professional and media obscurity, provide an overview of my initiation into media culture, and explore a self-transformation process that became necessary to manage the responsibilities associated with the media-assigned role of expert. I identify and examine the lessons I learned through extensive media involvement and the emergent realities of this involvement. Based on my experiences and resulting awareness of media culture, I offer to the discipline some suggestions and guidelines for media involvement and advocate for media training.

Media-aware stock performance has been well recognized in recent studies. Previous research, however, focused on the content influence of the media, ignoring the manner in which the media is delivered. Based on the trust theory, this study argues that the media platforms, as media distribution vehicles and trust endorsement for news, are themselves influential on the stock market. This paper collected news data from seven Chinese mainstream media platforms and classified them into official, professional, and mass media platforms to investigate the impact of different platforms. The authors find that high official and professional media coverage predict increased abnormal returns, while high mass media coverage predicts the opposite. In addition, this paper systematically explores the mechanism of media platforms on stock performance from the perspectives of platform content, audience, and publication timeliness. The findings include that investors' attention to media platforms has a moderating effect on the stock performance, and such an effect is more salient in bear markets.

This study examines shifting journalistic paradigms in a transitional society. Analyzing data from surveys of journalists and journalism students in the People's Republic of China, the authors find that professional journalism has emerged as a direct competitor to the party-journalism paradigm. Although the former is manifested in journalists' positive appraisal of professional news media, the latter is embodied in praising the official party organs. The professional perspective is associated with emphasis on the disseminator role of the madia and the desire for more liberal arts training in journalism, whereas the party-journalism paradigm is related to the emphasis on the interpretive and popular advocacy roles and the desire for more training in communist propaganda. The two journalistic paradigms are also reflected in differences in evaluating various innovative media outlets in the reforms. The implications of the findings for studies on the articulation of professionalism and other journalism paradigms are discussed.

Purpose of Review There has been a remarkable change in how people connect, access, and share professional and medical information over social media. This perspective article describes opportunities, potential pitfalls, and guidelines for social media use by pediatric urology providers. Recent Findings Pediatric urologists have effectively used social media to connect and share expertise, augment scientific conference participation, promote themselves and their research, disseminate guidelines and best practices, participate in virtual journal clubs, and engage with patients and their families. Information shared over social media is not protected by copyright law, not confidential, not regulated, permanent, and subjected to public domain and scrutiny. Despite these potential pitfalls, social media is a useful tool if best practices are observed and online communication adheres to professional guidelines and organizational policy. Social media use in healthcare is here to stay and pediatric urologists have online visibility whether or not they choose to actively participate. Despite new legal, ethical, and professional considerations that social media introduces, a well-executed social media presence provides pediatric urologists a wealth of new opportunities for networking, research, and disseminating high-quality medical information online.

Defining Human Resource Development (HRD) as either a scholarly domain or field of practice is widely recognised as problematic. This article investigates how practitioners engage in processes of identity work to collectively construct definitions of the domain of HRD in two Twitter chat events. HRD is presented in these events as a highly individualised practice taking place within professional networks and is characterized as an 'enterprising selfhood'. The enterprising-self strives to demonstrate professional competence within networks that provide affiliation and relational support in the experiences of becoming and being a professional. HRD is seen to be shaped by the demands of the knowledge economy and by emerging digital technologies. This determinist stance positions technology as a challenge for the practices of HRD and as a means for HRD to develop better, more effective practices. The participants in the chat events position themselves in contrast to an 'other' HRD that is slow, old fashioned and failing to effectively engage with new technologies. These Twitter chat events are presented as enactments of the future practices of HRD demonstrating 'how a professional can practise' against descriptions of how HRD professionals currently do practice.

The Internet is a vast expanse of information; however, search engines have made finding the proverbial needle in a haystack a simple matter. Although insurance provider databases and referrals may dominate how patients find their doctor today, one's online reputation and reviews on physician ratings sites will increasingly play a role in how prospective patients find their next provider. Social media plays a dominant role as the medium where people place and find information, blurring the boundary of professional and personal use. Privacy online has become an endangered species, requiring active strategies to keep it from going extinct.
